🌿 The Journey of Sam Barrocas. Our newest team member
In the rolling hills of Vermont, where rivers carve through forests and summer days are best spent by hidden swimming holes, Sam Barrocas is quietly reshaping the way we think about livestock, land, and local food. With over a decade of hands-on experience in farming and ranching across the United States, Sam’s story is one of grit, growth, and a deep-rooted commitment to stewardship.
Born and raised in Vermont, Sam’s agricultural journey has taken him far beyond his home state. He’s worked at renowned operations like Full Belly Organic Farm in California and White Oak Pastures in Georgia, where he honed his understanding of sustainable livestock systems and pasture-based production. His time on a large cow/calf ranch in eastern Colorado added another layer of expertise—this time in livestock logistics, herd management, and navigating the complexities of the cattle supply chain.
But Sam’s impact goes beyond the day-to-day work of ranching. As he’s stepped into leadership roles, he’s developed a sharp proficiency in USDA compliance, animal welfare standards, herd data systems, and even grant writing. His experience spans every level of vertically integrated livestock operations, giving him a rare, comprehensive view of how agricultural businesses function from the ground up.
At the heart of Sam’s work is a personal passion project: Cows Around. This small but mighty venture allows him to support farms with livestock consulting and land stewardship, while also helping connect consumers directly with locally raised beef. For Sam, it’s not just about producing food—it’s about building relationships between people and the land that sustains them.
Outside of work, Sam is a man of many passions. He spends his summers exploring Vermont’s rivers with his loyal Black Lab, Lady Bug, and finds joy in cooking with local ingredients—a way of expressing love and connection through shared meals. He’s also a proud member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, holds a Beef Quality Assurance feeder cattle certification, and actively participates in his local Farm Bureau chapter.
His time out West left a lasting impression, cultivating a love for horseback riding, country and western music, and the occasional line dance. It’s this blend of rugged experience and heartfelt values that makes Sam Barrocas not just a skilled livestock manager, but a true ambassador for sustainable agriculture and community-driven food systems.
Whether he’s consulting on pasture health, delivering beef to local families, or dancing under the stars at a country fair, Sam brings authenticity, passion, and purpose to everything he does. His story is a reminder that good food starts with good people—and that the best meals are the ones that connect us to the land, and to each other.
Newline are absolutely delighted to welcome Sam to the team. His depth of experience, practical insight, and passion for agriculture makes him an invaluable addition to our team. We look forward to our clients engaging with Sam, learning from his wealth of knowledge, and benefiting from the thoughtful, hands-on approach he brings to every project.
